Poison Ivy Performance Makeup Tutorial

Hi Dancers and Performers!

Today, I’m excited to walk you through the techniques, tools, and products I used to create my Poison Ivy look inspired by Academy Award Winning® Makeup Artist, Ve Neil. Let’s dive in!

1. Prep with Eye Primer

I always start with the Natural Born Cosmetics® Eye Primer to ensure the color pops. This primer is also one of my key tricks to getting your eyeshadows to last all day/show!

2. Apply Graftobian Luster™ Cremes

For the base, I used Graftobian Luster™ Cremes in Emerald Eclipse. Using a sponge eyeshadow applicator, I carefully patted the product all around my lid and into the inner canthus of my eye (inside corner of the eye). I also began shaping the wing by patting the Luster™ Creme out towards the outer edge, extending upwards to prepare for my eyeliner wing.

Pro tip: Start with a little product! The Luster Cremes can clump if applied too thickly. It’s always easier to build color than to remove excess. Instead of smearing, I prefer to gently pat it on, and when creating the wing, I turn the eyeshadow applicator sideways for a clean, defined line.

3. Highlight with Graftobian Ultra Matte Eyeshadow

To define my brow bone, I applied Graftobian Ultra Matte Eyeshadow in White Whip. This color helped create a clean separation between the eyebrow and the Luster Creme.

4. Add Golden Glow

Next, I went in with the Golden Glow Luster™ Creme, applying it on top of the green and extending it towards the wing. I later added more Golden Glow for that extra pop!

5. Deepen with Morningstar Turquoise

I used my OMNIA® Professional Lip Brush BOM-601 (a fantastic multi-purpose brush) to apply Morningstar Turquoise for added depth and to clean up the edges of the green. I applied just a small amount to darken the shade and refine the look.

6. Line with Graftobian ProPencil™ in

Jet Black

I lined my waterline and lower lash line with Graftobian ProPencil™ in Jet Black. When lining the lower lid, I don’t just drag it across— I lightly tap and glide the pencil for a smooth, professional look. The ProPencil™ is perfect for this because it doesn’t tug and glides effortlessly, ensuring a clean, bold application. Always make sure your pencil is sharp when applying to ensure the best possible application!

7. Create Custom Red Eyeliner

Using Magic Set™ Mixing and Lining Fluid, I custom-mixed my own red eyeliner. I used my metal spatula to scoop out a bit of Burgundy Blast, Copper Quasar, and Golden Glow on my metal mixing palette.

Once I achieved the desired red shade, I applied it with my S.I.L.K. Detail Liner Brush. For a more pigmented application, I stamped the eyeliner onto my top lid rather than dragging it across.

I followed up with another layer using the S.I.L.K. Pro Makeup Flat Eyeliner Brush, which helped intensify the color and sharpen the wing.

8. Accentuate the Brows

For my brows, I used Graftobian's Fantaseyes Red Eyeshadow to give them a red pigment, and later, I darkened them up with my custom red eyeliner mixture above.

9. Add Sparkle with Graftobian GlitterGlam™

To bring the entire look together, I applied Graftobian GlitterGlam™ Liquid Skin Sparkle in Ruby Sunrise, Golden Glow, and Emerald Eclipse. These shades deepened the colors and added that perfect amount of sparkle. GlitterGlam™ is versatile and can be used on the eyes, face, or lips— it's a must-have for any stage makeup look.

10. Finishing Touches

Add some gems, a costume, and you’ve got yourself a show-stopping Poison Ivy look— perfect for cosplay, Halloween, or the stage! Be sure to shop all the products I used to recreate this look!
